A WINTER TO REMEMBER |

The fairways are green, the robins are back and the golfers are happy once again. It wasn't too long ago, though, that the scene was quite different. This is how some of our neighbors coped with the February Blizzard!

Revised ADRC guidelines are now available and were distributed at the3/19/03 BHPHOA meeting. Those attending the meeting signed a register list and were given their copy. Since not everyone could attend the meeting, the ADRC Committee will continue to distribute copies to those who missed the meeting and ask someone in each household to sign the register to confirm receipt. Previously, the ADRC had polled a number of residents and found that many had never received a copy of the guidelines. Collecting signatures assures that a new copy has been received by each household. If you have not received your copy by the time this Newsletter is in print, please call Bob Mueller at 609-804-1194 and he will see to it that you get your update. As a reminder, these guidelines are very important to anyone in the community who wishes to make exterior alterations to their homes or landscape. The ADRC Committee seeks to act as a resource to guide and help you through the approval process. Remember, however, that approvals are required before work can commence. The members of the ADRC committee are: Dave Brintzinghoffer, Scott Coyle, Dave Goddard, Stephen Kay and Bob Mueller. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have with the guidelines or the process. |

Arthur D'Avanzo and Robert Jackson were elected on August 22, 2001 from a field of seven nominees to represent Blue Heron Pines residents on the Board of the Homeowners Association (HOA). The following profiles introduce these men who were the first to step forward to present our views, interests and concerns to the Developers. Artie and Joyce D'Avanzo retired here from Tuxedo Park, Rockland County, in 1996. A long way from NY, Blue Heron Pines came well recommended by their daughter who happened to put in the development's phone system and from a son-in-law who played here in a golf tournament. Artie brings a wealth of experience to the Board, developed over the years during ownership of his Insurance and Real Estate Business. Leisure hours are spent in his workshop, (ask to see his birdhouses), gardening, poker and walking the 18 hole course carrying his bag! The family that plays golf together stays together: Joyce and Artie have been married for 51 years, sharing a love for golf has worked well for them! Regarding his accomplishments for the residents while serving on the board, he is most proud of the negotiations with the Township's Planning Board relating to the pedestrian/bike path which had met with considerable opposition by residents; especially those who were to have a 6 feet wide bike path running smack through the center of their front lawns. The compromise was a reduction to four feet and the start it 2 feet from the curb which has resulted in a much nice look to the community. Bob and Dorothy Jackson, one of the original residents, chose to live here in 1996 when Dorothy convinced him that their former home and property in Hopewell, NJ had become too much to handle. Since she loves the shore and the casinos, Blue Heron Pines was conveniently close to both. They are active participants on the Miss America Pageant Committee in Atlantic City where their responsibilities include assisting in the care and well-being of five sets of contestants' parents. Dorothy and Bob share an avid interest in Bridge and play two or three times a week. In addition, they travel around the country three or four times a year to participate in tournaments. Bob's area of expertise on the Board was garnered over many years in middle management for a manufacturing company and assisting the Ewing Township's Board of Education where he was named Citizen of the Year by the Kiwanis Association. His administrative and political experience serves our community well. His most recent efforts as a bard member were centered on snow removal and getting the new committees operating. Particularly satisfying to Bob has been the building of the Clubhouse and the completion of the sidewalks. Most recently, Bob has been appointed Secretary for the Homeowners Association Board of Directors.
Betty and Joffred (JR) Betty and JR moved to this area from Monmouth County, N.J., via Houston, Texas. After retiring from his practice as an anesthesiologist in New York, they moved to Texas to enjoy the warm winters and diversified activities. Realizing that medicine was truly his first love, JR, who is originally from Ecuador, SA., took a "temporary" position in Atlantic County almost 6 years ago and is still practicing her today. Betty stays in Houston during the cold winters of New Jersey and is presently taking care of her elderly mother in Texas. Betty was a Labor and Delivery nurse at the same hospital as JR, but has since retired. Although they have been here for only a short time, Betty and JR have bonded with several of their neighbors and are looking forward to some "killer barbeques" this summer. Betty loves reading and crafts and would love to see a book club established. Though JR doesn't have much time for recreation, he is looking forward to the summer and meeting many more members of this friendly community.
Diane Diane and a cute little Shih-tzu by the name of Quincy come to us from Bridgewater, NJ. She is retired from Lucent Technologies. Her two sisters reside in Coventry Village Smithville, which is also a K. Hovnanian development, however the homes were a little too big for Diane's needs, so she started shopping around and found the models at Four Seasons. Diane fell in love with the Mulberry, and the rest is history. Diane has done extensive traveling around the world since her retirement. One of her favorite destinations is Asia. When not traveling she loves to read and enjoys her book club. Diane also enjoys long walks with Quincy. If you see them around the neighborhood, be sure to say hello! |

Blue Heron Pines Golf Club is Proud to Host the 2003 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
This summer - from July 14th to July 19th - the Blue Heron Pines community will have the opportunity to experience, first hand, a United States Golf Association (USGA) national championship. Blue Heron Pines Golf Club is thrilled to host the 2003 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, one of the thirteen USGA championships conducted each year, including the U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open. This marks the first time in twenty years that this prestigious event will take place in the tri-state area - a truly special occasion. The U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship dates back to 1922. All qualified amateur public course players are invited to participate. In addition to drawing many of the nation's top collegiate players, it continues to attract competitors from all walks of life, such as bus drivers, bartenders, firemen, waiters, builders, engineers, insurance salesmen, and college professors. The championship will be conducted on our highly acclaimed East Course, designed by noted course architect, Steve Smyers. The East Course, recently named of Golf Magazine's Top 100 daily fee courses in the United States, is also the site of the sectional qualifier that will take place on June 17th and 18th. If you currently have a USGA handicap index of 8.4 or lower and would like to participate in the qualifier, visit the website at www.blueheronpines.com/apl to access a player application. Preparations are underway as the management and staff at Blue Heron Pines tends to the many details involved in organizing this prestigious event. Our goal is to make it the best APL Championship in its history. Official U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship merchandise is now available in the Pro Shops. Blue Heron's graphic artist, Charlie Brandt, designed the impressive APL logo that appears on divot tools, belt clips, hatpins, assorted Nike golf and wind shirts, and fantastic golf hats in an array of stylish colors. Join us in July! Spectator admission is free. Get up close and personal! Be a part of the excitement by volunteering for the following positions: registration, hospitality, transportation, marshals/forecaddies, scoring, facilities, security, and grounds. All volunteers will receive a complimentary APL shirt and hat. Become a patron of the APL and receive official Championship merchandise gifts by visiting the website www.blueheronpines.com/apl (click on the support link). Net proceeds will benefit the South Jersey Junior Golf Foundation, an organization that provides our communities' children the opportunity to learn the game of golf. Donations are tax deductible. As part of the Blue Heron community, we look forward to your support as a patron or volunteer. Blue Heron Pines welcomes you to be our guest or join our team at the 2003 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
